If You Need Surgery, We Make It as Easy as Possible
The Female Pelvic Health Center has considerable experience in gynecologic surgery including advanced and cutting edge robotic techniques.
Our staff will work with you so you know what to expect before, during and after your gynecologic surgery.
Most patients have outpatient surgery or they stay in the hospital briefly (one or two days) to have their procedure. We strive to minimize your change in routine, and return you to the comfort of your home as quickly as possible, to facilitate your speedy recovery.
You might find these tips and insights particularly helpful:
- In the days before your surgery, you will need to arrange for your preoperative testing. These tests will typically be basic laboratory tests that we will describe to you, and advise you how to schedule.
- The night before your surgery, you must not eat or drink anything, even water, after midnight. You may brush your teeth, but be careful not to swallow any water.
- Depending on the type of surgery, you may also need to perform a bowel preparation. We will provide instructions for this and any other type of preoperative preparation recommended for you.
- On the day of your surgery, you will meet with an anesthesiologist at the hospital or surgery center. Information will be collected, your condition will be assessed and monitored, and you may receive medication to prepare you for your surgery. You will then have your procedure.
- It will be important for you to begin walking as soon as possible after your surgery. We will let you know of any activity limitations to which you should adhere, and ensure that you have medications to ease possible discomfort. You should feel free to call or e-mail our office at any time if you have questions or concerns.
- A Female Pelvic Health Center nurse will call you two to three days after your surgery to check on you. At that time, we will also schedule you for an office appointment approximately two weeks after your surgery. At that visit, we will schedule another appointment with you six to eight weeks post-operatively.
